The projects consists in the transformation of a roof space of a residential building in a studio apartment ("mansarda")

The goal was to find the appropriate balance between the strong characteristic of the natural wood roof - beams and the new intervention.

We kept the beams in natural wood but painted the ceiling in white color, to avoid a nostalgic interpretation of the architectural element. For the new spaces we decided to work with very linear elements, such as the kitchen, the box containing the bathroom, the set-in niches that organize the library space and storage. The contrast of old and new materials is resolved with the very special resin used for the flooring, a shiny, reflecting surface that increases the volume of the low spaces thanks to the mirroring effects.

Strong blue color (International Klein blue) is used to give a defined character to the bathroom box.
