The work consists in a conservative restoration of an architectural masterpiece, House Koerfer, built by the architect Marcel Breuer near Ascona, 1967-1967.

The exposed concrete of the outside facades needed a major intervention after 40 years of life. The steel reinforcement bars were damaged by corrosion, with consequent aesthetic and structural problems. A very careful job was implemented, checking with adequate instrument the condition of each reinforcement bar and deciding where the wall element was still structurally safe and where on the contrary needed the replacement of the steel. The selection of the concrete materials (“inerti”) was carefully implemented, searching the same materials used in the sixties for the original construction in order to have no visual impact at the end of the repair work. In addition to that we implemented a new system of artificial light for the inner spaces, in order to properly enhance the quality of the owner’s art collection.
